Curious about how AI can benefit your clinical practice?
Join the Health Care Unburdened Grant program

Feeling overwhelmed with paperwork? Curious about how AI can benefit your clinical practice? Ambient scribe technology supports care clinics by transcribing patient-clinician conversations in real-time, enhancing medical record documentation, and potentially saving you up to 50% on your charting time.

Funding for this multi-partner initiative to implement AI scribe technology was made possible by the Canadian Medical Association, MD Financial Management Inc. and Scotiabank as part of the Health Care Unburdened Grant.

You will receive:

  • 6 months of fully funded access to an AI scribe license provided by Autoscribe/Mutuo Health, an Ontario-based AI scribe company

  • Unlimited use of the scribe during this time period

  • Dedicated onboarding and change management support to optimize use for different practices, clinic contexts, and patient populations

  • Ongoing clinician and clinic support throughout the project period and opportunity for peer support via community of practice

Eligibility:

  • Must be a primary care clinician (physician or nurse practitioner)

  • Practicing in a participating Ontario Health Team in one of the listed geographic areas:

    • East Toronto

    • Kitchener, Waterloo, Wilmot, Woolwich, Wellesley

    • North York

    • Scarborough

  • Uses an electronic medical record

  • Not currently using an AI scribe product*

Individuals will be invited to participate based on eligibility and availability of AutoScribe licenses; priority will be given to clinics providing comprehensive primary care in underserved neighborhoods.

All participants will be required to take part in evaluation activities to assess the AI scribe’s impact on clinician and patient experience, as well as barriers and facilitators to AI scribe implementation.

  • Participants will be required to:

    • Complete three short surveys throughout the project period

    • Allow researchers to extract limited EMR data for the period that you have access to the AI scribe

    • Allow researchers to access Autoscribe-use data available from Mutuo (will not include personal health information) and data on the use of change management resources from Mutuo/eCE

    • Inform patients when using AI scribes during encounters

    • Share a study recruitment letter with administrative staff

    • Make efforts to use the AI scribe regularly in clinical practice, and engage with change management supports to optimize use when needed

*Note: This initiative is designed to provide adoption and change management support to clinicians, to ensure that clinicians get the most of the product, realize possible benefits, and see potential improvements in their day-to-day clinical work. It is not intended to fund licenses for clinicians who are already using an ambient scribe product on a regular basis.
